This is the highly acclaimed contextual awareness picture book of the winner of the International Hans Christian Andersen Award. Each book contains 7 large spanning pages corresponding to 7 scenes: residential buildings, country farms, stations, kindergartens, shopping streets, department stores, and lakeside parks. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Night can be read in contrast of different natural scenery and human activities in the same location.

每页的上部是图画,下部是从图画场景中挑出来的中英词汇。全套书共600多个单词,配有英语朗读音频,让孩子一边看场景,一边听单词、认单词。
The upper part of each page is a picture, and the lower part is Chinese and English vocabulary picked out from the picture scenes. The whole set has more than 600 words, with English read-aloud audio, so that children can listen to the words and recognize them while watching the scenes.

更厉害的是,书中的每个人物、动物都有自己的故事,孩子可以任意选择感兴趣的角色,跟上TA的脚步,去认识与TA相关的场景和活动。
What's even better is that each character in the book has its own story, and children can choose any character they are interested in and follow it to get to know the scenes and activities related to it.

The book is beautifully illustrated, with explanations and alarming real-life photos. It's not empty talk, but tells us in a very engaging way what we can do to help. The book cover is made of biodegradable plastic and received a special recommendation in the non-fiction category at the Bologna International Children's Book Fair.

喜福会 The Joy Luck Club

《喜福会》是美籍华裔作家谭恩美的处女作,也是一部半自传小说,取材于她的母亲和外婆的经历。小说里,四个从中国到美国的女人,有了新的家庭,凑成“喜福会”(每周一次的四家聚会)。她们回忆起各自母亲的故事,而母亲对她们的影响,不可避免地转嫁到她们女儿身上。这八对母女关系,像生根于中国林苑,却被半路摘下插进都市花瓶的奇葩,各有各的灿烂与衰败。
The Joy Luck Club is the debut novel of Chinese-American author Amy Tan, a semi-autobiographical novel based on the experiences of her mother and grandmother. In the novel, four women who have come to the United States from China have new families and come together as the Joy Luck Club (a weekly gathering of four families). They recall the stories of their mothers, whose influence on them is inevitably passed on to their daughters. These eight pairs of mother-daughter relationships, like the oddball that was born in the Chinese forest garden but plucked halfway and inserted into the urban vase, each has its own splendor and decay.

《喜福会》可以和张爱玲的小说《雷峰塔》和《易经》对读,应该很有意思。
It should be interesting to read The Joy Luck Club against Eileen Chang's novels The Fall of the Pagoda and The Book of Change.

Editor Ye Kai, an associate editor of Harvest magazine, wrote Confronting Chinese TeachingWhat is Chinese Teaching to critique the Chinese textbooks of the time, which sparked a national discussion.

套书分唐传奇、诗歌、现代文学、当代文学4册,给小学高年级和中学的语文教师在教材之外提供更多、更优选择。收录的每篇作品(或节选),写有赏析小文,分析叙事技巧、结构设置、语言艺术和思想情感。这套书无法取代教材,但足以成为学生课外阅读的补充。
The set is divided into four volumes: Tang legends, poetry, Chinese modern literature, and Chinese contemporary literature, giving Chinese teachers in upper elementary and secondary schools more and better choices beyond textbooks. Each work (or excerpt) included is written with an appreciation essay analyzing narrative techniques, structural settings, language arts, and thoughts and emotions. This set cannot replace the textbook but is sufficient to supplement students' reading outside the classroom.

教室图书馆系列之—管理与维护
Managing Your Classroom Library

在第一部分,我们讨论了教室图书馆的构建和设计。本期我们将探讨如何通过培养学生自主组织和管理教室图书馆。学生是教室图书馆最多的使用者和受益者,也最适合承担管理和维护的责任。让学生有用管理权,亲力亲为更能培养对图书的爱护和责任。


1. 学生如何管理图书馆?

对于高年级的学生,可以尝试按照图书分类的方式去管理,这样对将来进入更大的图书馆找书,熟悉图书分类也有帮助。但对于低年级的学生来说,如果按照图书馆分类法制定的标签去摆放是有难度的,必须用一种简化的直接的方式去管理。

比如,有的老师采用过的成功的方法是:给每一本班级图书角的书籍封面右上角都贴了贴纸,并且画上班级的标记,然后再把这些书进行分类。老师规定一组学生对其中的某一类负责,每组放在不同的箱子里(箱子也可以作上不同的小组标记)。在学期初记录下每个小组负责的图书册数,书目名称,该组学生在该图书的借阅中全权负责。 老师还会定期让学生检查他们的箱子,以确保在里面的书是无误的,无损的。如果有错放,就把它们放回属于他们的箱子。

《书语者》中的老师Ms. Miller选用专职学生管理员这样管理班级图书:“新学年开始,在分配班级工作时,我就会从班里选出两到三名学生当图书馆员,他们要保持图书馆有序运行:给书贴上标签,盖章,将新书上架。在我忙于指导其他学生时,他们会向同学们推荐或者协同找书。所有的手续都由学生自助办理。”

图书的维护和检查工作也很重要,老师可以仔细查看的图书馆,看看哪些书需要修复,哪些书似乎没什么人借(没人读过的书正好可以拿来做传书活动或者荐书广告,一边让更多的读者知道这本书)。而学生可以参与清洁图书和书柜,修补破损图书等劳动。

2. 教室图书馆里应该制定什么使用规则?

学生们完全可以建立班级图书馆使用公约,比如:
每个人最多可以拿几本带回家?如果遗失和损坏了该怎么办?其他班级的同学是否可以来借?

涉及到借还,因为教室内不具备图书馆电子平台借还的条件,可以考虑在图书角的登记簿上签字,确认取走和还回的时间,书名。在Ms. Miller老师班上,“每个学生,还有前来借书的访客,都有一张借书卡存在档案盒里。借书时,在卡片上记下书名,还书时将书名划掉。我用的是图书馆里通用的小卡片,上面还记录着日期。在图书馆藏书中,小卡片通常装在一个贴在书中的小纸袋里。”

3. 如何保持教室书籍摆放有序?

我们前面提到了,可以按流派、系列、主题或层次来组织教室图书馆,以师生的想法的为准。在这里再提一个可能面临的挑战:就是需要换书和新书进入教室图书馆时,如何更新管理?

如果已经按照箱子分好了类别,那么可以尝试在箱子标签的末尾添加一个字母。 例如,1-10号箱子里的8号箱子满了,可以考虑增加两个8号箱或8A和8B箱。如果有一个新的体裁或主题,可以考虑把它加到最后,做成11号箱。

双语潮词 Catch Phrase

三和大神 sānhé dàshén
 
Meaning:
 “三和”is the name of a low-end job market in Longhua District, Shenzhen, and “大神”which literally means “big god,” is used by Chinese netizens to jokingly refer to those with extraordinary skills in a certain field.
Unlike the majority of a new generation of skilled blue-collar workers on automated production lines, these people take low-tech and low-efficiency day jobs, such as working construction or security. Their mantra is “Work for a day and party for three.”
 It is a romanticized nickname by some of whom may admire this group's Hippie spirit.

 Example:
A:你表弟还过着三和大神的日子吗?
 Nǐ biǎodì hái guòzhe sānhé dàshén de rìzi ma?
 Is your cousin still leading the life of taking day jobs and living from hand to mouth?

 B:没有, 他回老家找了一份送快递的全职工作。
 Méiyǒu, tā huí lǎojiā zhǎo le yifèn song kuàidi de quánzhí gōngzuò.
No. He has returned to his hometown and found a full-time job as a delivery guy.
 回音室效应 huíyīnshì xiàoyìng

 Meaning:
 “回音室”means “echo chamber,”and“效应” means “effect.”Information can come from many different sources and perspectives, but when you're only hearing the same perspectives and opinions over and over again, you may be in something called an echo chamber. 
On the internet, almost anyone can quickly find like-minded people and perspectives via social media and countless news sources. This has made echo chambers far more numerous and easy to fall into. 

Example:
 A:为什么我周围很多人都觉得这部电影不好看,但它却是本周票房冠军?
 Wèishénme wǒ zhōuwéi hěnduō rén dōu juédé zhèbù diànyǐng bù hǎokàn, dàn tā què shì běnzhōu piàofáng guànjūn? 
Many people around me don't think much of this film. Why is it the top-grossing film at the box office this week?

 B:这是回音室效应。你和你周围的人意见一致,但并不代表大多数人的看法。
 Zhè shì huíyīnshì xiàoyìng。 Nǐ hé nǐ zhōuwéi de rén yijiàn yizhì, dànbìng bù dàibiǎo dàduōshù
 rén de kànfǎ.
This can be attributed to the echo chamber effect.You and those close to you share a similar opinion, but that doesn't necessarily represent what the majority of the public thinks.
