The First Huitong MUN School Team Achieved Excellence Results
对于不少荟同学子来说，正值盛夏的暑期同样可以被称之为一个“收获的季节”。同学们在科研、竞赛和项目研究中大放异彩。其中，有一支上学期全新组建的学术校队——荟同模拟联合国校队，也在刚刚过去的8月里，向荟同大家庭传递了一个令人欣喜的消息：
For many Huitong students, the summer season can also be called a "harvest season." They shine brilliantly in scientific research, competitions, and project. A new academic school team formed last semester, the Huitong Model United Nations School Team, delivered a piece of good news to the Huitong family this past August.
在8月初举行的2022世界青少年模拟联合国大会（广东会议）中，荟同模联校队共有5名学生在WTO初中英文the Development and Cooperation of Cross-border E-Commerce（会场1）中获得特别奖项并被邀请参与高级别会议。所有初中成员强力贡献起草、合二为一的决策，被选为该会场唯一通过并向所有大会参与者汇报的决议，参与起草的代表为李圜祺、吴如璧、曾梓桐、杨宇杰、涂静容、梁修齐同学。与此同时，李圜祺同学获得最佳代表、吴如璧同学获得最佳立场文件；杨宇杰同学获得优秀代表、涂静容同学获得优秀立场文件、梁修齐同学获得荣誉提名。古洛一、Alice Pak 同学作为小学和中学高年级组的代表也收获了主席团的一致认可。
In the 2022 World Youth Model United Nations Conference (Guangdong), held in early August 2022, five Huitong Youth Model United School Team students won special awards. They were invited to participate in the WTO Junior High School English on the Development and Cooperation of Cross-border E-Commerce (Venue 1). All junior high school members contributed strongly to the drafting, and the combined decision was selected as the only resolution passed in that venue and reported to all conference participants. They were invited to participate in the high-level conference. The following representatives were involved in the drafting process: Celestina Li, David Wu, Evan Zeng, Jesse Yang, Max Liang, and Ricky Tu. Meanwhile, Celestina Li was awarded the Best Delegate, David Wu was awarded the Best Position Paper, Jesse Yang for Outstanding Delegate, Ricky Tu for Outstanding Position Paper, and Max Liang for Honorable Mention. Roy Gu and Alice Pak also received unanimous recognition from the Bureau as representatives of their groups.
荟同一直希望帮助每一位学子时刻准备在万象更新、充满挑战的未来世界中，成为领袖，济世助人。身处这样一个充满激情和挑战的全球化时代，模拟联合国展现出的正是一项极富教育意义的学术活动面向未来的特质——它不仅有助于同学们了解联合国和各国面临的热点问题，更为同学们提供了一个关心与对话世界的平台，帮助他们用国际眼光来思考问题、讨论问题，探讨世界发生的大事对他们未来的影响以及他们自身在未来可以发挥的作用。
Grounded by rigor and knowledge, Huitong has always wanted to help every student to be undaunted, creative, and bold, ready to lead or assist in the wholly transformed and challenging world of their future. In such a globalized era full of passions and challenges, Model UN activities not only help students understand the United Nations and the hot issues faced by various countries but also provide a platform for students to care about and dialogue with the world. It allows them to think and discuss issues from an international perspective and explore the impact of world events on their future and the role they can play in that future.
作为第一届荟同模拟联合国校队成员，同学们在一个学期里的不懈努力，也处处展现出荟同人严谨治学、无所畏惧、创新进取的面貌。每一次的模联会议都是对联合国大会和其它多边机构的仿真学术模拟。同学们需要根据其运作方式和议事原则，在不同会场中扮演不同国家的外交代表，围绕国际上的热点问题进行会议讨论。
As members of the first Huitong MUN School Team, the students worked tirelessly throughout the semester and showed the rigorous, fearless, innovative, and enterprising outlook of Aloft people everywhere. Each Model UN meeting is an academic simulation of the United Nations General Assembly and other multilateral institutions. The students were required to play the role of diplomatic representatives of different countries in different venues according to the operation and principles of their proceedings and to discuss international hot issues.
因此，每一个代表都需要具备写作演讲、辩论谈判、危机处理、团队合作、组织策划等各方面的综合能力与技能。自组建以来，校队成员们在赵楚依和刘畅两位老师的学术指导下，进行了关于联合国基本知识、国际组织的运作、外交官基本素养等方面的理论学习以及学术写作能力的培养。在赛前，大家还接受了针对赛事的强化训练以及一对一的辅导。
Each delegate needs comprehensive abilities and skills in writing and speaking, debating and negotiating, crisis management, teamwork, organization, etc. Since the formation of the Huitong MUN School Team, the students have been under the academic guidance of two teachers, Ms. Chloe Zhao and Ms. Sophia Liu. They learned the theory of the basic knowledge of the United Nations, the operation of international organizations, the essential qualities of diplomats, and developed their academic writing skills. The group also receives intensive training for the tournament and one-on-one coaching before the competition.
校队组建之初，大部分同学都缺乏赛会经验，但经过一段时间的学习，进步与提升都是显而易见的。曾为北京大学模拟联合国社团成员、有着丰富模联大会组织与实战经验的刘畅老师回忆，在校队里年龄最小的是一名来自六年级的同学。一开始，他总是戴着兜帽坐在最后一排的角落，比较羞涩也不常发言。每次训练结束后，老师时常会单独询问他的课堂感受，鼓励他不断挑战自我。在期末校队进行模拟外交官演讲的时候，他已经能够站在讲台前，自信地面对老师和同学们完成演讲，语音语调和姿态都显得大方了许多。获得最佳代表的李圜祺同学则是表现最突出的校队学生之一。她曾经参加过模拟联合国并入选北外模联少年班，也有许多辩论赛经验，综合素质很强。两位老师特别选择让她担任学生助教。在课堂里，她一直非常积极热心，分享了许多个人体会和赛事经验。
When the team was first formed, most students lacked experience in the competition, but after a period of study, the progress and improvement were apparent. Ms. Sophia Liu, an elite Peking University MUN club member and a teacher with extensive experience in organizing and conducting Model United Nations conferences, recalled that the youngest student on the team was a sixth-grader. In the beginning, he always sat in the corner of the last row wearing a hood, and was shy and did not speak often. After each training session, she would ask him individually about his feelings in class and encourage him to keep challenging himself. At the end of the semester, he could stand in front of the podium and confidently make his speech. The student who won the Best Delegate, Celestina Li, was one of the most outstanding students on the team. She was selected for the BFSU MUNSEL Youth class and had a lot of debate competition experience. The teachers chose her to be a student teaching assistant. She has always been active and enthusiastic, sharing many personal experiences and tournament experiences.
上学期末进行的模拟联合国校队辩论赛 MUN Debate Competition at the end of last semester
立场文件的写作也是至关重要的一环。启动第一个写作项目时，一些初中的同学还未接触过正式的英文学术写作，文件只是一些资料的复制和堆砌。对此，赵楚依老师特别针对基础薄弱的同学们开展了专题培训。作为一个漫游全球的教育者，赵老师曾辅导过两百余名学生参加世界上最顶尖的模拟联合国赛事。她为大家细致教授了学术写作的结构以及格式要求，帮助提升同学们的信息检索能力。这些训练对于他们未来升入高年级后的学习也有很大助益。
Writing the Position Paper was also a crucial part of the session. When the first writing project was launched, some middle school students had not yet been exposed to formal English academic writing; the documents were just copies and piles of information. In response, Ms. Chloe Zhao conducted special training for students with weak foundations. As a globe-trotting citizen, Ms. Chloe Zhao has prepared over 200 students for the world's top-notch MUN events. She taught the structure of academic writing and formatting requirements in detail to help improve the students' information retrieval skills. This training will also help them in their future studies when they move on to higher grades.
在区域会议中表现优异同学们已受邀参加世界青少年模拟联合国大会的高级别会议。今年的高级别会议将于9月底启动，在其中表现突出卓越的学生将可能入选国际活动——加入联合国与国际组织少年班、深入联合国及国际组织、开展联合国与国际组织主题学习与研究，更加深入地触碰这个世界的脉搏。在此，让我们再次祝贺第一届模联校队取得的成绩，并祝福同学们在接下来的会议中再创佳绩！
The students who excel in the regional conferences have now been invited to participate in the high-level sessions of the World Youth Model United Nations Conference. The high-level sessions will be launched at the end of September. Students with outstanding performance may be selected for the international event, the BFSU MUNSEL Youth class, to go deeper into the United Nations and international organizations and conduct studies and research on the themes of the United Nations and international organizations. Let's congratulate the Huitong MUN School Team on their achievements and wish the team many more successes in the upcoming sessions!
