Sports Star of the Month
Sports Star of the Month is a brand-new initiative being run by the PE Department. At the end of each month, the PE department will discuss each grade and select one girl and one boy who have stood out in PE and the Huitong Hawks After School Programme.
At the end of the month, the children selected will be presented with a certificate and water bottle as a reward. They will also enter the PE Hall of Fame, where their face and reason for being chosen will be displayed.
There are no set criteria for children to be selected, it is based around a set of core values, on which many sports base their principles, that we expect to see in PE. These include respect, integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline, and outstanding performance.
Respect – this is about ensuring that every child treats everyone with respect, this includes their peers, teachers, and referees. However, this extends beyond people but also to the equipment and facilities ensuring that the equipment is used in the correct way and leaving the facilities tidy at the end of class.

Integrity – this is about ensuring that every child abides by the rules both as an individual and when playing in a team. If the rules are not being abided by, ensuring that this is dealt with in a positive manner. This is also about being true to themselves and being honest about their own behaviour and scores, being able to reflect on themselves to ensure a positive improvement.

Passion – this is about demonstrating a passion for PE or a particular sport in a positive light. When a child is passionate about sport, they will make excellent progress. Passion can be displayed in many ways, including answering questions in lessons, encouraging others to participate and helping others to improve. Passion can also be demonstrated by sharing their knowledge of the sport with others, this could be via email to the PE teachers, talking about it in "morning circle" or showing others what they have learnt at recess.

Solidarity – this is about supporting others. Supporting others in a positive way will help a child make progress themselves. If a child can explain something to another child or adult, they are challenging themselves as it is not easy to explain a concept or instructions to others in a way that they will understand. Children can also demonstrate solidarity when playing team games by working together to achieve a common goal.

Discipline – discipline takes many forms; this includes behaviour and attitude in class. Is the child a positive role model to all, do they encourage others to do the right thing?

Outstanding performance – we do not expect everyone to be a world-class athlete however we would like to see every child aspire to be the best they can. If a child tries their best in every lesson, this is all we ask for. There are many children who are excellent athletes but do not share this with their PE teachers, we would love to hear all about them.

Elsa Xie 1A – Elsa has an excellent attitude; she demonstrates perseverance and is always willing to try even when finding it difficult. Elsa is a role model to her peers who is ready to listen and encourages others to follow the class rules.

Jeremy Niu 2A – Jeremy is an incredibly helpful student, who ensures that the PE spaces are kept clean and tidy. At the end of each lesson, he is the first to check that all the equipment is away. Jeremy is a very respectful child, thanking his teacher at the end of each lesson.
Sarah Zheng 2B – Sarah表现出杰出的行为，她时刻准备好学习，专注并愿意提出问题以扩展她的知识。 Sarah是她同龄人的榜样，对她所有的老师和同龄人都表现出良好的举止。
Sarah Zheng 2B – Sarah demonstrates outstanding behaviour, she is always ready to learn, attentive and willing to ask questions to extend her knowledge. Sarah is a role model to her peers demonstrating excellent manners towards all her teachers and peers.

Haoyun Zhu 3A – Haoyun always has a positive attitude, and she will always face a challenge with a smile. Haoyun follows instructions and asks for support when she needs it. She also tries to encourage her friends to participate actively in class.

Fabiana Wu 5A – Fabiana is a well-behaved student, who regularly demonstrates all of the Sports Stars’ values. She encourages all to participate in the game, often helping her to understand the rules of the game by translating the instructions.

John Jiang 6C – John has shown excellent effort and an outstanding attitude in his PE lessons. He has shown great sportsmanship and is always willing to challenge himself to improve.

Daniel Xiao 8B – Daniel is the ultimate Sports Star, he consistently tries his best, showing a positive outlook even when finding a task difficult. He is willing to share his knowledge with his peers. Daniel takes pride in the PE environment ensuring things are tidied away at the end of class.

Serena Hu 8B – Serena has a very calming impact on her class, she is wanting to improve not only her ability but also her peers. She asks meaningful questions to extend her own knowledge and is willing to pass this on to her peers.

Evan Zeng 9B – Evan is an excellent role model to all. He always listens carefully to instructions and is willing to translate them for his peers. He is not afraid of a challenge and is willing to improve his performance outside of lesson time.

Yijun Chen 9B – Yijun has made fantastic improvements right from the start of her Huitong schooling. She is always willing to improve and has a very positive outlook. Yijin faces challenges head-on, preserving until she has achieved her goal.

Sam Shen (Senior student) – Sam does not always find PE easy, however, he never gives up. He looks for ways to improve his lifestyle. He works hard in PE to ensure that he is developing as an individual within the subject. Sam has impressed his teachers with his positive attitude.
Sissi Li (高年级) – Sissi 是一名出色的运动员，她表现出丰富的知识和理解力，尤其是在理论工作方面。 Sissi 与她的同龄人分享这些知识，并愿意将其翻译成普通话以支持同龄人的学习。
Sissi Li (Senior student) – Sissi is an excellent athlete, she shows great knowledge and understanding, particularly with her theory work. Sissi shares this knowledge with her peers and is willing to translate this into Mandarin to support her peers’ learning.
